DUI Accident in Syracuse Leaves One Dead

Daniel Wall was driving on I-690 in Syracuse, New York after spending the night using cocaine, heroin and marijuana. At 4 am the next morning, Wall struck and killed an auto mechanic named Ryan Dearnaley who was working on his best friend’s vehicle along the shoulder of the highway.

Law enforcement reported that Wall was operating his car at excessive speeds, driving on the shoulder, not attempting to swerve to avoid a collision, or to stop the car, and the officers on the scene stated that these signs were consistent with someone maneuvering a vehicle while under the influence of drugs.

Wall directly hit the two cars where Dearnaley was working, and the auto mechanic was immediately killed due to his injuries. The victim’s friend, Paul Drake, was hospitalized with a fractured right knee and ankle.

When the officers arrested Daniel Wall, his statement was, “I just didn’t see the cars.” He is charged with vehicular manslaughter, vehicular assault, and criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving and driving while impaired by drugs.
