After a serious accident, getting to the right hospital quickly matters. Trauma centers are hospitals set up to treat severe injuries.
If you or someone you love was hurt in a crash, a Brooklyn car accident lawyer can help with the legal side once you are safe. This page lists Brooklyn’s designated trauma centers.
In an Emergency, Call 911
If someone is seriously hurt, call 911. Emergency responders will decide where to take the patient. Do not delay care to choose a hospital yourself.

Designated Trauma Centers in Brooklyn
The New York State Department of Health keeps the list of designated trauma centers. The list, revised in July 2026, shows these centers in Kings County, which is Brooklyn:
| Hospital | Adult level | Pediatric level |
| NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County | Level I | Not applicable |
| NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn | Level I | Not applicable |
| Maimonides Medical Center | Level I | Level II |
| Brookdale Hospital Medical Center | Level II | Not applicable |
| NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital | Level II | Not applicable |
Maimonides is the only Brooklyn hospital on the list with a pediatric trauma designation.
What Trauma Levels Mean
Trauma centers are given a level. In general, a lower number means a higher level of trauma care. The state list shows each hospital’s designation for adults and for children.
A hospital without a trauma designation can still treat many injuries. Emergency rooms across Brooklyn treat crash victims every day.
What to Do After Emergency Care
Emergency treatment is only the first step. After you are stable, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- Ask for copies of your medical records and bills
- Follow every discharge instruction and follow-up visit
- Keep a record of your symptoms
- Write down the names of the doctors who treated you
Medical records and bills are some of the strongest evidence for a personal injury claim, so keep them organized and easy to find.
Serious Injuries and Your Claim
Trauma center patients often have serious injuries. Some cases involve a brain injury or a spinal cord injury. These can lead to long recovery times and high medical costs.
